Printability control RapidTest 38, this Green-coloured „felt-pen” is ideal for quick spot tests on polyolefins to check printability. Just a few seconds and you can see if the surface tension value is equal or higher as 38 mN/m.
The test pens contain fluids of defined surface tension. You can check the surface energy of the material simply by draw a line, applying a small amount of ink by the tip of the felt pen. So, a quick method to printability control this RapidTest 38 test-pen.
The surface energy is one of the defining criteria of adhesion of printing inks, varnishes, adhesives on different plastic and metal surfaces. But determine of it is also a quick method to verify the purity of metal surfaces. If this value is right, the result is a printable plastic surface or a paintable, galvanizable metal surface. This value is in the current measurement system mN/m (milliNewton/meter), but often used of previously dyne/cm (the numerical value is same).
The general rule, with few exceptions, a higher surface tension gives a better adhesion. The low surface tension is partly due to the characteristics of the material. For example, many plastics show very low surface tension, so, requiring physical or chemical surface treatment to achieve a good adhesion. On the other hand, the surface contamination (grease, oil, fingerprints) can also be the cause of low surface energy. So, you necessary to check the value of surface tension before printing, painting or galvanizing.
